Roughing Toolpath

The roughing toolpath is used to remove the bulk of the material from a workpiece. This is done to reduce the amount of material that the finishing toolpath has to remove, and to reduce the cutting forces on the finishing toolpath.

Roughing Toolpath

The roughing toolpath has two main parameters that you need to set:

  • Machining Allowance - This is the amount of material that you want to leave on the workpiece for the finishing toolpath to remove.
  • Stepover - This is the distance that the tool moves sideways between each pass.
  • Raster Angle - This is the angle at which the tool moves during each pass. A value of 0 will move the tool in the X direction, a value of 90 will move the tool in the Y direction.

More Settings

By default, the toolpath will be created using the settings from the tool database. You can override these settings by using the 'More Settings' button.
